L-Theanine and Gyokuro

A Cup of Optimism…

We at Tea Vue are feeling positive about the future. Based on our research, we think that in the next decade or so tea drinking in America is going to increase. You may be curious about why this is important to you, it’s because Tea contains the amino acid L-Theanine.

The Japanese first discovered this compound in green tea in 1949 and in 1950 the amino acid was successful separated from Gyokuro tea, a tea with higher levels of the substance. Then in 1964 in Japan, L-Theanine was approved for unlimited use in food items.

L-Theanine has been shown to have many positive effects on humans. Due to the synergistic effect of naturally occurring caffeine in tea it has been shown to improve cogitative function. Even low levels have demonstrated altered brain wave states (alpha waves) inducing relaxation. As if these reasons weren’t enough, this amino acid found in quality gyokuro has shown to help the body cope with stress.

In our fast paced world of hustle and bustle where coffee has been the go-to drink for those tired and exhausted, we think people will be turning more to tea. When this happens, Americans will feel more relaxed, have improved cognitive function, and better manage mental and physical stress. In a country that has already accomplished so much, just image what we will be able to do!
